DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>Plagiarism &amp; Academic Dishonesty&nbsp;in the Classroom: An Interdisciplinary Panel</strong>&nbsp;</p>

<p><em>Plagiarism and academic dishonesty&nbsp;continue to pose&nbsp;serious challenges in&nbsp;both face-to-face courses as well as in online learning. Please join&nbsp;Jane&nbsp;Strasser (Senior Associate Vice President for Research and&nbsp;Research Integrity Officer),&nbsp;Michele&nbsp;Griegel-McCord (Associate Professor of English), Susan Mantel (Professor of Marketing), Megan&nbsp;Wuebker&nbsp;(Computer&nbsp;Information&nbsp;Analyst) and&nbsp;Olga Hart (Senior Librarian &amp; Coordinator of Library Instruction)&nbsp;for a discussion&nbsp;on plagiarism.&nbsp;The&nbsp;panelists will offer their perspectives on&nbsp;the&nbsp;motivation behind academic dishonesty, impact of plagiarism and cheating,&nbsp;plagiarism detection&nbsp;tools such as Turnitin,&nbsp;and how</em>&nbsp;we approach plagiarism prevention with international students. In addition, p<em>anelists will also answer questions you may have about academic dishonesty.</em>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong><u>Panelists:</u></strong>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Jane Strasser </strong>is the Senior Assoc. Vice President for Research.&nbsp;<span style="color:rgb(51, 51, 51)">Responsible for human subjects research, vertebrate animal research, biosafety, radiation safety, export controls, the biologic select agent and toxin program, and receiving and evaluating any allegations of research misconduct.</span></p>

<p><strong>Megan Wuebker &ndash; </strong>Megan Paxton Wuebker is a Computer &amp; Information Analyst in IT@UC&rsquo;s Enterprise Academic Technology. She manages the integration of third-party tools into Canvas and is responsible for administering university-wide tools including Turnitin, Honorlock, Respondus, and TopHat. Megan has also taught face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.<strong>&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Michele&nbsp;Griegel-McCord&nbsp;</strong>is an Associate Professor in Department of English on the Clifton campus.&nbsp;&nbsp;She currently serves as the Associate Director of the English Composition Program and has&nbsp;considerable experience&nbsp;teaching&nbsp;undergraduate students in face-to-face, online, and hybrid learning environments.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Olga Hart</strong>, Senior Librarian, serves as Coordinator of Library Instruction at&nbsp;UC&nbsp;Libraries. During her two decades at&nbsp;UC,&nbsp;she has&nbsp;participated&nbsp;in multiple efforts to prevent student plagiarism, including orientation, workshops for faculty and students, and development of online tutorials and guides.&nbsp;Olga works closely with various units and&nbsp;offices&nbsp;and campus, including&nbsp;CET&amp;L, UC International, and the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Susan Powell Mantel</strong>&nbsp;is a Professor of Marketing&nbsp;at&nbsp;the Lindner&nbsp;College of Business and a&nbsp;second-generation&nbsp;Bearcat. She also spent 6 years in administration including a term as LCB&rsquo;s Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs.&nbsp;Mantel has accumulated a strong research record studying consumer information processing which has resulted in significant publications in the top tier journals in her field including&nbsp;<em>Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Operations Management,&nbsp;</em>and others.&nbsp;</p>
