In-class polling is a great way to increase student engagement in both face-to-face and synchronous online courses. In this session, participants will be introduced to Top Hat, one of UC’s polling tools. We will cover the basics of Top Hat, delve into the features that are free to all faculty, and introduce some of the more advanced Top Hat tools that require a subscription. We will also discuss some best practices for integrating polling into your course with the goal of increasing student participation and engagement.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe the benefits of using live polling in the classroom
- Use the basic functions of the Top Hat polling system
- Develop activities for their class using the Top Hat polling system
