Introduction To Course Design (Workshop - Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning) #15276

Import to your Calendar

Are you a faculty member or a graduate student who is (re)designing a course for the summer semester or next academic year?  If so, then register for the "Introduction to Course Design" workshop!  This workshop will introduce you to the backwards course design model, focusing on the following three iterative processes: first, identify the desired learning results to write course learning outcomes and student learning objectives ("What is worthy and requiring of understanding?"); second, determine the acceptable evidence to select assessment techniques ("What is evidence of understanding?"); and third, plan learning experiences and instruction to reflect student-centered pedagogy ("What learning experiences and teaching promote understanding, interest, and excellence?").

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to

  • compare the backwards course design model to more traditional designs
  • construct a preliminary outline of a final course design document
  • exchange feedback with peer educators to improve course design.
