Finding creative ways to engage learners can be challenging when our course outcomes remain constant and our students continue to evolve. How can we bridge the boundary between essential content and the unique life experiences students bring to our class? What if we were to take a page from an unexpected playbook--early childhood education’s approach of learning through play? If we are familiar with the model of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), we can see that it shares many of the same principles –representing content with various media, engaging students through motivation, and empowering learners to demonstrate learning in ways that reflect their experience. Join us in exploring ideas, tools, and templates that will help you craft unique content that captivates your students and inspires enduring learning.
This workshop was previously presented at the May 2025 LT@UC Conference where attendees selected it for an Outstanding Presentation Award because of its exceptional merit.
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:?
- Design learning activities that foster student collaboration and critical thinking for in-person and online courses
- Incorporate multiple perspectives and real-world problem solving to enhance learning for students with various backgrounds and needs.
- Apply readily available tech tools to provide students with multiple means of engagement, representation, and expression.
