In this special guest speaker series, attendees will learn about: 

  • the speaker’s academic life story, including pivotal events in their career; 

  • triumphs and obstacles that the speaker has faced along their life; 

  • key people that influenced and/or impacted their academic experience; 

  • what has changed, what remains the same in their career – and what is next! 

GUEST SPEAKER:

Alan Hargens, PhD Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UC San Diego 

Dr. Hargens has served as Chief of the Space Physiology Branch at NASA Ames Research Center, and has edited 12 books and published more than 360 peer-reviewed articles and over 60 chapters. He has trained over 250 students, two of whom became NASA astronauts and one who is a Fulbright Scholar. He currently mentor students interested in attending graduate school, medical school, schools of oceanography, marine biology and bioengineering as well as research in general.
